Information on hospital life

Regarding medical treatment

At this hospital, we utilize a charge physician/attending physician system. The attending physician conducts most interaction, and examinations are conducted after consultations between attending physicians and charge physicians so please rest assured.
Please understand that attending physicians may be different from the outpatient examining physician.
An attending physician will provide a thorough explanation regarding your condition, examinations, treatment details, etc. If you have any concerns or wish to receive a more detailed explanation, please feel free to consult with an attending physician or nurse.
Explanations from physicians are generally only within designated hours.
There are designated physicians for hospital rounds during the night or on holidays, etc. If you have an urgent matter, etc. for your attending physician please consult with a nurse.
After hospitalization you will be given an "inpatient care plan" after receiving an explanation from an attending physician or ward nurse. Please ask any questions you have.
When you are scheduled to have examinations, treatment, etc., a nurse will provide an explanation in advance. Please ask any questions you have.
Nurses will bring medicine to you, but in order for you to develop a habit of taking medicine properly after discharge you may be asked to store it yourself. Please understand.
A pharmacist will give instructions on taking medicine. Please ask any questions you have.
During hospitalization as a general rule you cannot see doctors or receive medicine at other medical institutions. When it is unavoidable and you desire to see another doctor, it is necessary to issue a certificate so please be sure to consult with a physician or ward nurse first.

Regarding nurses

At this hospital nurses work on a system of 3 rotating shifts. We have adopted a system of charge nurses.
Nurses are working 24 hours a day. If you need anything, please use the nurse call button at your bedside at any time.
Nurses make periodic rounds at night so please rest at ease.

Regarding hospital rooms

Your hospital room will be a 4-person room or a private room. If using a private room, the patient themselves will be charged. The types of private rooms are as per the "application for special room and consent form". If you desire a private room please fill out the necessary information in the "application for special room and consent form" and submit it. However, depending on hospital room conditions there are cases where we cannot meet all requests.
Depending on your condition or other unavoidable circumstances please understand that you may be asked to change hospital rooms or wards.
At this hospital, name cards are NOT displayed at hospital room entrances for privacy protection.
4. Inside the rooms, many patients usually have the curtains drawn for privacy reasons. So that each inpatient can enjoy a stay in a pleasant environment viewing the outside, except when for prevention of infection we ask that you please cooperate in keeping the curtains open during the daytime whenever possible.

Regarding air conditioning in hospital rooms

Air conditioning in hospital rooms can be individually adjusted.

  • Cooling times From mid-May to early November
  • Heating times From mid-November to early May

(Private rooms)

The 2 control switches at bedside can be used to adjust (temperature and fan speed).

(4-person rooms)

The thermostat and fan speed control switch at the entrance of the room can be used to adjust (hallway side and window side). When making adjustments, please be sure not to bother the other patients.

Furthermore, please ask the nurse if you have any questions.

Regarding daily life

Wake-up time is 7:00AM.
Lights-out is 9:00PM.
When leaving the ward to go to the shop, the roof or for a walk through the hospital, etc., please inform the nurse in advance.

About meals

Therapeutic meals are provided to meet the patient's condition as designated by the attending physician. If you desire food other than the provided food, please confirm with a physician or nurse.

Meal times are as follows.

  • Breakfast 8:00AM
  • Lunch 12:00PM
  • Dinner 6:00PM

At this hospital, those with normal diets, postpartum diets, elementary student diets, and middle school student diets are allowed to choose from 2 types of meal (selection menu) for lunch and dinner on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
The provided meals are for therapeutic preferences and may not necessary meet the patient's preferences. Please feel free to consult with a physician or nurse if there is an issue.
Please always adhere to instructions regarding fasting.
Depending on the time of the hospitalization, please understand that it may not be possible to provide a meal.
If your condition, etc. does not prevent it, you will eat your meals in a ward cafeteria. In such cases, the hospital will provide cups, chopsticks, and spoons. If eating in your room, please prepare your own cups, chopsticks and spoons.
To drink tea, etc. outside of meal hours, please use the ward cafeteria. If you cannot walk it will be brought to you.
For any other matters regarding meals or nutrition, etc. please notify a nurse. If necessary a registered dietitian will respond to you.
If you are on day leave or night leave from the hospital, or are discharged, etc. for your own circumstances you may be charged for meals that are prepared which you do not need.

About bringing in medicine

Please bring it with you if you have your daily medicine, medicine notebook, drug information certificate, and other things to identify the medicine's details.

Regarding sheet changing/laundry

Sheets are periodically changed, and if soiled they are changed as necessary. Please feel free to contact a nurse.
As a general rule, please take your laundry home with you.
When you need to wash something, please use the coin-operated washing machines and driers located in each ward or the 1F cleaning corner.
Furthermore, TV cards can also be used to pay for the coin-operated machines.

Use of restrooms

Please use the provided toilet paper and refrain from using anything else.
If the toilet is dirtied, please do not leave it as is but rather clean it yourself or contact a nurse.
If you feel ill while using the toilet please press the installed nurse call button. A nurse will come promptly.

Regarding showers

Washrooms are installed in some private rooms, but these are generally showers.
Showers are approved depending on your condition, so please ask for approval.
A nurse will explain regarding the hours of use of the shower.
If you feel ill while using the shower please press the installed nurse call button. A nurse will come promptly.
Those who cannot use the shower will be wiped with a steamed towel by a nurse. Please let the nurse know if you will wipe yourself.

Regarding the Sunsun Plaza (rooftop plaza)

The open hours of the Sunsun Plaza (rooftop plaza) are as follows.
6:00AM to 9:00PM

When a helicopter will be landing on or departing from the rooftop heliport, the Sunsun Plaza (rooftop plaza) will be closed for safety.
Please follow the staff's instructions and return inside.

Regarding electrical appliances

You can use TV cards to watch TVs and refrigerators (sold in machines in the ward cafeterias). TV cards cost 1,000 yen each.

Please use earphones, etc. for TV and radio to avoid bothering other patients. Furthermore, earphones are sold in the 1F shop. (Radios require specialized earphones.) The radio channels are as follows.

  3. AM BSS(San-in broadcast)
  4. AM NHK Dai-ichi

Please consult with the shop for inquiries regarding TV cards.
If you have requests regarding other electronic appliances, please consult with a nurse.

Regarding valuables

Please refrain from bringing valuables such as precious metals whenever possible.
Please manage valuables, hearing aids, dentures, etc. yourself or with the help of your family. The hospital cannot be responsible for losses.
The bedside table has a storage draw with a lock, so please use it. Please leave the key in its original location when you are discharged.

Regarding mail

Mail delivered on weekdays will be delivered to the wards.
Mail delivered on holidays (weekends, national holidays, year-end period) will be delivered on the following weekday.

Newspaper Subscriptions

Patients who desire subscriptions to newspapers sold in the 1F shop should please apply directly at the shop. Please inquire with the shop for details.
The sale price is the selling price at the shop. Please pay at the shop at the time of discharge or at the end of each month.
Please contact the shop if you will change wards, change rooms, or end your subscription.

Regarding prohibition of smoking

Smoking is prohibited on the premises and throughout the hospital.

Regarding attendants

At this hospital, we provide nursing in accordance with the standards stipulated by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, and attendant nurses at the patient's expense are not permitted. Please understand that nursing during hospitalization will be conducted by nurses.
When family is desired depending on the patient's condition, family may be allowed to attend the patient with a physician's approval, but only when it is necessary for them to understand home nursing methods, etc. to prepare for the patient's discharge. In such cases, please fill out the necessary information on the "inpatient family attendant application form" and submit it to a nurse.
Bedding, cots, etc. for attendant family are rented at the shop, so please inquire at the shop. The rental hours are 8:30AM to 4:00PM.
Please use snack cafes etc. for meals of attendants.

Regarding public phone/phone reception

Regarding phones

Public phones are located in the 1F lobby, near the elevators on each floor, and other places.
A public fax machine is located in the shop of the 1F.
Telephone cards are sold in the shop.
Please understand that outside phone calls are generally only answered from 8:00AM to 6:00PM and for emergencies only.
Pease understand that inquiries by telephone are generally not answered. If there is something which must be answered, please notify a nurse in advance.

About the use of mobile phones

Regarding mobile phones

The radio waves emitted from mobile phones can affect medical equipment. Furthermore, the use of mobile phones in the hospital can hinder the rest of other patients. We ask that you follow the rules below with regards to the use of mobile phones within the hospital.

  1. Please note that there are locations where the use of mobile phones is prohibited.
  2. Within the hospital rooms, please refrain from using mobile phones as a general rule. Please use the ward cafeteria or rooftop plaza, etc. When you must use them, please be considerate of those around you.
  3. Even in private rooms there are cases where you cannot use them due to medical equipment. Please obtain permission for the attendant nurse before using them.
  4. Mobile Wi-Fi routers and smart phone tethering functions can affect medical devices, etc., so please do not use them.
  5. When using a mobile phone, please adhere to good manners to avoid bothering other patients.

Physicians, nurses, etc. uses specialized PHS phones for hospitals which do not affect precision electronic medical equipment, etc. Please understand that these differ from general mobile phones.

Regarding emergencies

Please confirm the locations of emergency exits, emergency doors, fire extinguishers, evacuation routes, evacuation shelters, etc.
In the rare case of a fire or other disaster, please follow the instructions of staff and evacuate calmly. (Elevators cannot be used in cases of evacuations.)

Regarding second opinions

In order to help patients receive treatment and options they are more satisfied with and self-determine their life during illness, patients can ask for the opinion of specialist physicians at other medical institutions. Patients who desire second opinions from other hospitals should please consult with their attending physician. Please inquire with the consultation window for reservations, etc. with other medical institutions at which to receive second opinions.

About Mame Net

Mame Net

Mame Net is a medical information network that connects medical institutions with one another.
Each medical institution within Shimane prefecture connected to Mame Net can view medical information, etc. with patients' consent.
Sharing medical information for patients as joint clinical records which were previously stored separately at each medical institution enables more accurate diagnosis and safer treatment when conducting diagnoses, treatment, and compounding of medicine, etc.
Application reception is located at the 1F escalator.

Regarding day leave/night leave

Day leave and night leave are not allowed as a general rule during hospitalization. If you desire day leave or night leave, advance approval by the attending physician is necessary.
After consulting with the attending physician and nurse, please fill out the necessary information on the "day leave/night leave approval application form" and submit it to receive a "day leave/night leave approval certificate". Night leave is limited to 2 nights/3 days.

Regarding discharge

Discharges are determined by the charge physician/attending physician. Please consult with the head ward nurse regarding your date of discharge.
Discharges are generally conducted in the morning.
If you will be coming back to this hospital after discharge, please take your "hospital reservation card" after paying at the "payment counter".
At the time of discharge, please confirm your "directions card when discharge", "hospital reservation card", "medicine", etc.
When you are unable to pay part of the hospitalization costs by the time of discharge, please understand that you will be additionally charged after discharge. Furthermore, at the time of discharge we may conduct a balance adjustment for the period up to the month before the hospitalization costs.
